The young woman with pinned-up hair is shown turned sideways, with his back to the viewer. The stole or dress is made of dark feathers and may suggest a society lady or even a show dancer. On the other hand possibly the lady is the artists future wife whom he married in 1906.

The artist grew up in from 1871 back to the German Empire belonging Alsace.
He attended the Art Crafts School in Strasbourg and then from 1892 -'99 the Munich Academy, where he was assigned to the studio by Nikolaos Gysis.
In Strasbourg Schneider founded the artists' group Saint-Nicolas. It emerged significant portraits of Alsatian personalities.
With portraits and landscape paintings he participated repeatedly in international exhibitions. In addition, he held a teaching position as professor at the Strasbourg craft school.
